Why we don’t talk about meaning at work: MIT Sloan Management Review
- Academic Articles
Our research identified four pathways to experiencing meaning: Integrity with Self, Unity with Others, Expressing Full Potential, and Service to Others. These need to be in balance and meaning always takes place between gravity and grace, heaven and earth, inspiration and reality. If inspiration or reality is ignored work becomes meaningless because it is ungrounded (too much inspiration) or is too much of a daily grind (too much reality).
People find more meaning when they can meet their needs across all four pathways over time.
